My Battle With Migraines

I haven’t been able to pin point the exact cause of my migraine chronic illness. However it began, it is still my story. It started with my Dad and his sisters, who all suffer from Migraine headaches.

When I was 6 years old, I fell backward off my hair and hit my head first on the tile floor. This led to me being in a 1-week coma with a fractured skull and internal bleeding. This is where I think it all began.

At 10 years of age, I had my first truly debilitating migraine headache. I still remember it like it was yesterday. We were at a family function, I had a piece of pork and within minutes my head began to pound. 30 minutes later, I was beginning to feel dizzying and started to vomit in the bathroom while my mother held my hair.

At first, we thought it was the meat that caused me to feel this way because I grew up in a pork-free home (the only meat we ever ate was fish & chicken other than that is was grains and vegetables). Ever since then, the causes for the migraines began to wildly vary.

That was the beginning of my nightmares. Day after day, it was a headache after headache without any medications or diagnosis until was 25 years old. I didn’t receive medication until I had my 3rd child which was 2.5 years ago. A Doctor prescribed me Imitrex & other preventative medicines. Before this, I had tried diets and lots of natural remedies until it got to the point where I couldn’t function. My daughter was missing school because of me and I was being sent home from work.

This is how my migraines and my battle to reclaim my life began.
