How do you deal with your migraines? Tell us in the comments!
I have suffered from intractable migraines for 20 years. Every doctor including specialists told me nothing could be done. I saw a neurologist for over 3 years trying different medications, trying to prevent them and treat them when they occurred. NOTHING worked!
Finally, my neurologist started prescribing narcotic pain medication, just to keep me from having to go to the ER multiple times a month. They did every test imaginable and tried every medication to no avail. I have no underlying reasons to have these unmanageable migraines. While narcotics can cause rebound headaches, they have been the only thing that manages the pain when a migraine hits.
I was having 20+ migraine days a month. My life was miserable and I could rarely interact with family and friends due to the pain, nausea, light and sound sensitivity, even using the narcotic medications for pain relief.
An ex-boyfriend of mine sent me an article one day about Daith piercing. I scoffed at the idea, nothing else had worked. I spoke to my doctor, who didn’t know much about it and seemed to think it wouldn’t provide much relief.
After discussing with my family, I found a piercer who explained to me that the exact placement is important and offered to pierce both sides for $50. I decided to give it a try.
They take about 6 months to heal, and I didn’t notice much relief, minimal at best, during this time. However, 7 months after getting my piercings, I realized my migraines were not as severe… it’s been about 2 years now since I had them done. I still have migraines and am still on pain medications, but my symptoms are not as severe. I went from 20+ migraine days a month to around 12. I know that still sounds horrible, but to me, it’s a godsend. Now the pain medications easily manage the pain and I have been able to lower my dosage.
I will never be migraine free, but I know can live more of a normal life! I recommend Daith piercing to anyone who suffers Migraines!
